Botox: What You Should Know Before You Say Yes (or No)

Let’s talk Botox — because whether you’re already a fan or just Botox-curious, there’s no shame in exploring your options when it comes to aging beautifully and confidently.

Botox is no longer a hush-hush topic. In fact, it’s one of the most common non-surgical aesthetic treatments in the world — and many women over 50 are now using it strategically to refresh, not freeze their look.

This isn’t about looking 25. It’s about looking well-rested, smooth, and glowing — for you.

💉 What Exactly Is Botox?

Botox is a purified form of botulinum toxin that works by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles. It’s injected into specific areas of the face to soften expression lines and prevent them from getting deeper over time.

Most common treatment areas:
– Forehead lines
– Frown lines (the “11s” between the eyebrows)
– Crow’s feet around the eyes
– Bunny lines on the nose
– Downturned mouth corners

✨ What Are the Benefits for Women Over 50?

As we age, wrinkles become more static — meaning they stick around even when we’re not making expressions. Botox can help:

✅ Soften deep lines and creases
✅ Lift the brows and open the eyes
✅ Prevent new wrinkles from forming
✅ Reduce a tired or angry appearance
✅ Enhance your natural expression without freezing it

When done properly, Botox can make you look like you’ve just had a good rest or a relaxing holiday. That’s the goal — not frozen, just fresher.

⏰ How Long Does Botox Last?

Typically, results start showing within 3–7 days, with full effect in about two weeks.

– Duration: Around 3–4 months on average
– Some women find results last up to 6 months after several consistent treatments

Touch-ups are normal. It’s not permanent — which is why many people like it as a flexible, low-commitment option.

⚠️ Risks & Things to Consider

Botox is generally safe when performed by a licensed, trained professional — but it’s still a medical procedure. Always go to someone who understands facial anatomy and aesthetics, especially for mature skin.

Potential risks:
– Minor bruising or swelling at injection site
– Temporary headache
– Droopy eyelid or uneven brows if injected improperly (rare but possible)

Ask about:
– Experience with patients over 50
– Conservative dosing to avoid looking overdone
– Whether they offer “Baby Botox” (smaller doses for subtle results)

💰 What Does Botox Cost?

This varies by country, injector, and area treated. You’ll typically pay per unit or per area.

– Per unit (common in the US/AU/UK): ~$10–20 per unit
– Average treatment: 20–40 units
– Estimated total cost per session: AUD $300

In Asia, treatments can often be more affordable without compromising on quality — just be sure to choose clinics with excellent safety standards and reviews.

Generally in Asia, Botox, Dysport start at AUD $9 a unit. You can also get Korean branded Botox from $5 per unit. The brand does vary in effectiveness on an individuals basis. I have tried Korean brands – Retox and it was great. But the WonderTox brand not so strong or effective for me with the same units used.

🙋‍♀️ Is Botox Right for Me?

That’s a personal decision. There’s no should — only what feels right for your face, your values, and your lifestyle.

Some women choose to embrace lines as a beautiful map of their life. Others want a little help smoothing them out. Either choice is valid. You do not need Botox to be beautiful — but if it boosts your confidence, that’s beautiful too.

🪞 My Advice: If You Try It, Do It for You

Not for your partner. Not for the camera. Not for strangers online.
If you decide to try Botox, do it with intention, education, and self-love.

Start small. See how you feel.
And know that you’re not “cheating aging” — you’re just choosing how to meet it, on your terms.
